The Dr. K Sextet formed at the Royal College of Music in 2009. The group set out to perform a wide variety of contemporary music and work with young composers in order to create fresh and exciting new music, engaging as wider audience as possible in the repertoire they are passionate about. They performed in several RCM recitals including for the Cadbury Concerts series and for RCM New Perspectives, and since graduation they have performed at Southwark Cathedral, in the Edge new music series and enjoyed a successful debut at the Harare International Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe. Upcoming projects include concerts in London, Aylesbury and the inaugural Dr. K Festival in Dulwich on 19th-20th October.
The group has worked with several composers including Charlotte Harding, Denise Lee, Benjamin Tassie and Arne Gieshoff as well as workshopping works by several other composers. They also enjoy doing workshops with children and eldery, and members in the ensemble arrange works specially for these workshops.
Individually members of the group are active in the London music scene, both orchestrally and in New Music. Two members recently participated in the London Sinfonietta Academy and Alex Wilson was recently awarded 3rd prize in the British Contemporary Piano Competition. Members have worked with groups such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the English Chamber Orchestra as well as performing as chamber musicians at all the major London venues including the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Royal Albert Hall Elgar Room and St John's Smith's Square.
